Petitioning the DNR
to
Ban Lead Ammo and Fishing Tackle
This time in
State Parks and SNAs
The DNR Commissioner deferred to the Legislature to make changes when answering our previous petition to ban lead in the entire region of Minnesota where common loons breed. Our 2021 Legislature failed to act with the Republican led Senate bowing to the lobbying of the National Rifle Association.
This time we ask the DNR Commissioner for less, but what would still be an important step forward in making rules requiring non-toxic ammo and fishing tackle to be used in our State Parks and Scientific and Natural Areas. State law requires the Commissioner to respond within 60 days which will be by Dec 17.
We would appreciate your support – along with that of other organizations – by writing a letter directly to the Minnesota DNR:
Sarah Strommen
DNR Commissioner
500 Lafayette Road
St. Paul, MN 55155.
Your letter to the DNR can be very short, simply stating: “Our organization supports the Petition for Adoption of Rules Requiring Non-toxic Fishing Tackle and Non-toxic Ammunition in MN State Parks and Scientific and Natural Areas (dated October 15, 2021), filed by Friends of MN Scientific and Natural Areas.”
Please copy us on any supporting letter you send at:
